Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Submatic, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you are using Submatic for a company, you confirm you can accept these terms on its behalf. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Submatic transcribes the speech in your videos, gives you a browser editor for word-level subtitles, and produces finished output: subtitle files (SRT / VTT) on every plan, and videos with captions burned in on paid plans.

You need an account to use the service. Keep your sign-in method secure — activity under your account is your responsibility. Tell us right away if you believe someone else has access.

Plans are measured in processing minutes per month — the length of video you can have transcribed and rendered. Minutes reset at the start of each billing cycle and unused minutes do not roll over. If a job fails on our side, the minutes it consumed are returned to your balance.

Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe and renew automatically. You can cancel anytime; your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for. Prices may change, but never mid-cycle and never without notice.

You own what you upload and what Submatic produces from it — the transcripts, subtitle files, and rendered videos are yours. You grant us a limited license to store, transcode, transcribe, and render your content solely to provide the service, and it ends when your content is deleted.

You are responsible for having the rights to the video and audio you upload, including the speech, music, and likenesses in it.

Do not use Submatic to:

• process content that is unlawful or infringes someone’s rights;
• circumvent plan limits, rate limits, or metering — including by sharing accounts or automating around quotas;
• probe, disrupt, or reverse engineer the service, or resell it without our written permission.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules, removing content where required.

Individual uploads are capped (currently up to 240 minutes and 2 GB per file), and each plan has its monthly minute quota and project history window. We may adjust technical limits over time; if a change materially reduces what your plan includes, we will tell you first.

Transcription and caption timing are automated. They are good, but they are not perfect — accents, noise, and crosstalk produce errors. The editor exists so you can fix them; you are responsible for reviewing captions before publishing, especially where accuracy matters legally (accessibility requirements, advertising claims, quotes).

We work to keep Submatic fast and available, but the service is provided “as is” without warranties. Features may evolve; we will not remove core functionality from a paid plan mid-cycle. Content retention is described in the Privacy Policy — download your exports promptly.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim related to the service is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and neither side is liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

You can stop using Submatic and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these terms or for abuse of the service. On termination, your content is deleted per the retention windows in the Privacy Policy.

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will post the update here and notify account holders before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
